Observations of ionospheric fields and flows made by the Wick component of the SABRE auroral radar system during the 1984 SUNDIAL campaign are reported. The velocities and intensities measured by the radar are compared with geomagnetic indices, and with parameters of the interplanetary medium. Enhancements in the ionospheric parameters are observed in conjunction with increases in the solar wind energy flux density in the vicinity of the earth. Comparisons are also made with the average and typical behavior of the parameters measured by SABRE, from recorded statistics.
