A variety of astrophysical systems are expected to emit gravitational waves at frequencies between 10 Hz and several kHz, a range accessible to ground-based detectors which use laser interferometry. After many years of development, construction, and commissioning, the LIGO, Virgo, and GEO 600 detectors have reached astrophysically interesting sensitivity levels. I will review the latest available results from searches for gravitational-wave signals using the 2005-2007 data collected by these detectors. I will also briefly describe "Enhanced" and "Advanced" detector upgrades which are underway to increase the sensitivity of LIGO and Virgo, with the expectation that gravitational wave observations will become an important tool for astronomy by the middle of the next decade.
