The authors first summarize the basic properties of pulsar with particular emphasis on the physics of the magnetosphere. Then, they review observations of gamma-ray pulsars and examine current theoretical models for the emission of high energy radiation from neutron star magnetospheres, in particular, the outer gap model. Finally, an analysis of the statistical properties of the presently known Galactic gamma-ray pulsar population is presented.
