Pulsed 20 MeV gamma rays from the Vela pulsar, PSR 0833-45, were detected on a balloon flight from Longreach, Queensland, using a spark chamber pointed at 35 deg south of zenith. The time average flux was of 0.000015 MeV/sq cm sec MeV. Evidence is also seen for gamma radiation from the Large Magellanic Cloud. A comparison with OSO-7 ray surveys indicates that at least some of the galactic plane gamma rays are from point sources.
