Twenty-three strong extragalactic radio sources have been surveyed for weak emission in their vicinity at 11 cm wavelength with the Effelsberg 100 m telescope. A catalog of 257 sources is given which is thought to be complete down to 15 mJy. Source counts near the 23 strong radio galaxies and quasars are not significantly different from source counts in empty fields. Hence the majority of the 257 sources probably are unrelated background sources. Testing whether there is an excess of components aligned with the axes of the strong central sources, a significant detection rate only for core-jet (D2-type) sources was found.
