Determining the chemical composition and ortho-to-para ratios (nuclear spin temperatures) of cometary materials are essential to understanding the formation condition of our Solar System. In this work, we analyzed high-dispersion spectra of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) in optical and near infrared wavelength regions. C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) originated from the Oort cloud and its perihelion passage was on 16 May, 2004. Our observations were performed on 24 and 28 May, 2004 by the Infra-Red Camera and Spectrograph (IRCS) and High Dispersion Spectrograph (HDS) mounted on the Subaru telescope.
We detected multiple parent species: H2O, HCN, CH4, C2H2, C2H6, and CH3OH from IRCS observations in near-infrared. We present rotational temperatures, gas production rates and mixing ratios of the molecules.
We also determined ortho-to-para abundance ratio (OPR) of NH2 based on optical emission bands of NH2 (0,8,0), (0,9,0) and (0,10,0). Telluric transmittance and C2 emission lines blended with NH2 were took into account in our analysis. Nuclear spin temperature of ammonia is obtained from the OPR of NH2. Origin of cometary materials in comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) will be discussed based on these measurements.
