Use of television equipment and an electrooptical converter in combination with a high-aperture-ratio optical system makes possible a significant increase in the capabilities of the optical method of observing giant meteors and comets. An optical system similar to a Schwarzschild (1905) system was calculated with an aspherical main mirror and a spherical secondary mirror. It is shown that such a system allows creation of high system apertures D at an aperture ratio A greater than 1:2. Exact parameter values are obtained for a system with a 1000 mm-diameter main mirror by correcting aberrations with an optimizing computer program. The calculation results were used to construct an optical system of two mirrors. Results of laboratory studies of aberrations at various angular distances from the system axis are presented.
