We present preliminary results from a VLA HI spectral line study of optically compact (radii <1 kpc), star-forming dwarf galaxies. This program is motivated by recent results for one such system, ADBS 113845+2008. Cannon et al. (2009) revealed a striking disparity between the stellar and gaseous components of that system: the enormous HI halo extends more than 40 optical scale lengths from the stellar body. To ascertain if such "giant disk" dwarf galaxies are common, this work explores the interstellar media of 5 dwarfs with similarly compact stellar populations. We present global HI profiles, moment map analyses, and compare to optical imaging. These data suggest that the properties of ADBS 113845+2008 are extreme even when compared to other systems that have compact stellar populations; the frequency of "giant disk" dwarf galaxies appears to be low. Four of these five systems are in relative proximity to other galaxies; the properties of these companions are explored in Fliss et al.
