In the study described a mass-spectrometer system developed on the basis of the MI-9301 high-resolution magnetic resonance mass-spectrometer was applied to an isotopic analysis of light inert gases in small samples of mean composition. The resolution was high enough to separate all multiplets in the isotopic analysis of He, Ne, and Ar. The results obtained and their comparison with literature data showed that the regolith at the Luna-16 site was formed without intensive mixing, that the solar wind parameters remained constant (in the first approximation) during the formation of the entire regolith layer, and that the lunar fines are a mixture of particles of low and high gas content, in which the former particles prevail.
