Over the last few decades increasingly sophisticated analysis algorithms have been developed in helioseismology. In this talk I will describe some of these methods with an emphasis on those most relevant to the study of oscillations in other stars and some of the relevant lessons learned. I will then go on to discuss some of the properties of stellar oscillations which distinguish them from solar oscillations and how to address those in the analysis. Finally I will speculate on what we may learn from the stellar oscillations.
