The height dependence of background wave disturbances (WDs) was measured at Alma-Ata during January-February 1985. The height dependence of the relative WD amplitude is determined by two competing factors: (1) amplitude increase due to a decrease in atmospheric density with height and (2) WD dissipation, increasing with height. It is shown that the height dependence leads to the formation of an amplitude peak at a specific height; the peaks of the high-frequency WD components are shifted to lower heights as compared with low-frequency components.
