For magnetic field and plasma parameters typical of solar coronal loops, plasma heating by resonant absorption of Alfvén waves is shown to be highly efficient in the frequency range including the photospheric granulation and p-modes. In this study, the loop structure in modeled by a class of axisymmetric force-free equilibria of a long straight cylinder, approximating a large aspect ratio loop. For a given loop equilibrium, the fractional absorption spectrum is calculated. Examples are given for four different loop equilibria (two density profiles × two magnetic field profiles).
