Scientific paper

High-precision radial-velocity measurements of the star HD 96008 have allowed us to establish that this object, supposed by some authors to belong to a new class of unusual F0-type variable stars, is actually an ellipsoidal variable. By combining photometric and spectroscopic data it has been possible to derive the physical parameters of the system characterized by a low mass ratio and seen under a small angle of inclination: it consists of an F0 subgiant almost filling its Roche lobe and an M5 star at 3.6Rsun_ from the primary.
