Previous observations of the massive eclipsing binary V453 Cygni leave open the question whether the star was an intrinsic variable during 1966. Analysis of additional photoelectric photometry made in 1966 between the comparison star HD 227586 and a check star indicate the variability is apparently associated with the comparison star rather than the eclipsing binary. Additional UBV photographic photometry of the comparison star suggests that its variability may be due to the sporadic inclusion into the photometer diaphragm of a faint companion, with a contribution from a second faint star.
