B, V photometry and spectroscopy for the WN4 star HD 187282, which is associated with a ring nebula and lies high above the galactic plane (z = -365 pc) are reported. Both its light (amplitude, approximately 0.04 m) and its radial velocity (approximately 20 km/s) are found to vary with a period of 3.85 d. This is seen as suggesting that HD 187282 may be a close binary system whose low-mass (approximately 1 solar mass) companion could be a neutron star. Evolutionary arguments make this plausible.
