In this paper, we introduced the optical design of Hα birefringent filter for SST. As this filter will be used in space, we advanced a novel method of which the rotary half waveplate is stable after adjusting the transmitted wavelength of filter in laboratory. This implies the filter will not need the rotary structure and will be more lightly. We described the process of how to find out the corrective azimuth of half waveplate in laboratory and analyzed the effects on filter of which the azimuth error and temperature error.
