We have been studying massive star formation properties of early-type spirals for the past few years. The presence of massive stars can be traced via both Hα and far-infrared (FIR) emission. The origin of FIR emission in early-type spirals, however, has been debated extensively in the published literature. Taking advantage of one of the most comprehensive Hα imaging surveys of nearby early-type spirals, we present here a comparison of Hα and FIR luminosities for a sample of 51 Sa-Sab galaxies and discuss our findings.
