H I line profiles have been obtained for a sample of 37 galaxies. 30 of these galaxies have IRAS fluxes representing a wide range of infrared luminosities and spectra. The galaxies also represent 5 levels of optical activity: non-active, LINERS, H II galaxies, Sy 2 and Sy 1. They also have a wide range of tidal interaction activity with other galaxies. The purpose is to study the behaviour of H I within the scenario which relates tidal events with star-formation, dust formation, IR luminosity, and nuclear activity in galaxies. A strong correlation is found between H I and IR luminosity, which appears to be in the form of an excess of H I emission related to the interaction events.
