Searches for 6-cm H2CO absorption of the 2.7K cosmic background radiation and 21-cm H I self-absorption have been carried out in 60 and 39, respectively, small dark dust clouds chosen from Lynd's catalogue and lying near the plane of Gould's Belt of local bright stars. Formaldehyde was detected in at least 36 of the clouds and 26 of these were subsequently detected by their H I self-absorption feature. Radial velocities show that many of the clouds participate in the expansion of the local system of bright stars and interstellar H I gas (Feature A). The velocity-galactic longitude relation of these clouds is similar to that of Feature A and in general shows about 2 km s-1 higher velocity amplitude. It is postulated that the dark dust clouds are less braked by the surrounding interstellar medium than the general expanding Feature A gas and lie near the outside edges of this gas.
