The H-beta luminosity of 27 QSOs, 26 Seyferts 1, eight N galaxies, 11 Seyferts 2, and two normal galaxies is calculated by means of a photoionization model, and compared to observed values, in an examination of the evolutionary sequence of extragalactic objects. While the observed H-beta luminosity is less than its calculated value in 23 out of the 27 QSOs and 14 out of the 26 Seyferts 1, leading to the conclusion that the nebulosities surrounding these objects are optically thin for the U-V photons, the observed H-beta luminosity is found to be higher than its calculated value in the case of the remaining four QSOs, 12 Seyferts 1 and all remaining galaxies. This discrepancy has been attributed to the synchrotron source of U-V photons in the object, such as the hot gases surrounding the stars. A correlation between increasing H-beta luminosity value and degree of extragalactic object evolution leads to the formulation of the sequence: BL Lac objects-QSOs-Seyferts 1-N galaxies-Seyferts 2-normal galaxies.
