The presence and variability of H-alpha emission in very luminous F-K supergiants is investigated, and the lower limit of MV where H-alpha begins to appear in emission is determined. Basic information on the sample of eight stars is presented, including the spectral type, MV, H-alpha activity, and the shape of the H-alpha profile. The emission is variable in intensity and shape for all the stars. The very luminous supergiant HD 217476, which is both a radio star and a binary, shows particularly great variability.
