Commission 5 (Documentation and Astronomical Data) of the International Astronomical Union at the XVIIIth General Assembly Patras 1982 has established a Special Working Group on "Guidelines for Abstracts". It is the aim of this Working Group to elaborate a comprehensive collection of abstracting guidelines. A first draft has been circulated to some distinguished experts of the documentation field. This second report incorporates the results of their common considerations.
