Past, present and future observations of Titan's thermal spectrum are discussed. Ground based observations of Titan's mid-infrared thermal spectrum gave the first indications of the temperature regime and the role of hydrocarbons in the chemical composition. Significant progress exploring Titan using ground based observations may be achieved by increasing the spectral resolution, exploring new spectral regions, and by searching for seasonal or time dependent changes of the spectrum.
