The EISCAT magnetometer chain observed two unusually strong (400,000 A) extremely narrow (20 km) electrojets drifting southward with a velocity of 2 km/sec. Just before these events the magnetometer chain was located on the poleward side of the well developed Harang discontinuity. The events are interpreted as Alfven waves in front of an injected plasma cloud from the tail by which the Harang discontinuity is completely removed.
