The X-ray performance and surface properties of the Einstein mirror are reviewed, and improvements necessary to meet the Advanced X-Ray Astrophysics Facility specifications are outlined. Techniques used in the rework of the Technology Mirror Assembly are discussed. Adequate metrology to determine surface quality has been obtained, and polishing techniques that reduce the surface errors of all important spatial frequencies to allowable values have been developed. The instrumentation necessary to align the X-ray optics to tolerances of less than 0.1 arcsec has been developed.
