Gravitational Radiation: Close Binaries

Scientific paper

The authors compute to lowest order the phase error due to the circular-orbit assumption in modelling gravitational-wave chirps from coalescing binaries. The error increases steeply as one proceeds toward coalescence, and can be comparable to π even for very small (residual) initial orbital eccentricities, thus deteriorating severely the detector's performance.
