It is shown that two images of one and the same object which are formed by a Schwarzschild gravitational lens may travel relative to one another with a velocity exceeding the speed of light if the lens moves. The equations of gravitational-lensing theory are analyzed, and it is found that if the distance between the source and the lens is much larger than the distance between an observer and the lens, the relative velocity of the images could, in principle, be unlimitedly large. It is noted that the behavior of the quasar 3C 279 might be due to this effect.
