A numerical experiment based on smoothed particle magnetohydrodynamics is used to gain insights into the evolution of magnetic fields, currents and gas flows during the collapse of a magnetized vortex on to a compact massive object. We observe the formation of an expanding ring in the symmetry plane of the system and the presence of spiralling inward motion towards the centre of attraction. The final state of the system compares favourably with the observed qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the circumnuclear disc in the Galactic Centre.
