The general-relativistic equations were integrated numerically to describe the motion of white-dwarf matter after it loses hydrodynamic stability. It was shown that the end result was sensitive to the asymptotic properties of the equation of state of high-density matter. For ultrarelativistic gas with a bulk energy density equal to 3 times the pressure, the star undergoes relativistic collapse; for the extremely rigid equation of state with the bulk energy density equal to the pressure, a neutron star is formed.
