We present results from a study of gravitational collapse of both a massless scalar field and Brill waves in axisymmetry, focusing on the threshold of black hole formation and associated critical phenomena. The results were obtained using a numerical code incorporating adaptive mesh refinement (AMR), and key features of the code will briefly be discussed.
