The hypothesis that the gravitational constant G decreases as the universe expands is investigated on the basis of velocity dispersions in clusters of galaxies, which imply virial masses much larger than the combined mass in the visible galaxies. The effect of a variable G on primordial stars in an Einstein-de Sitter universe is examined, whereby a star ages more quickly when G is large. Attention is given to the possibility of a population of stars with evolutionary ages greater than the Hubble time, or hyperevolved stars. The red halo around NGC 4565 may provide an example of such hyperevolution.
