Relative to crystalline graphite, a graphite two-layer is uniaxially compressed, and has stronger interplanar binding and substantially altered one-electron properties. These results may be relevant to astrophysical invocation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (graphitic molecules) and graphite as sources of certain emission and absorption features of the interstellar medium.
