Agekian (1976) has shown that determination of the analytical form of the direction-field gradient along the normal to the trajectory is essential for studying the structure of directional velocity fields in the case of motion in a plane-potential field to which reduces the motion in the field of a rotationally symmetrical potential. In the present paper, it is shown that in the motion in a plane-potential field near the zero-velocity contour, the directional velocity field is always two-valued and that the sides of the orbit contour are mutually orthogonal.
