We propose to to study the globular cluster systems of twenty spiral galaxies that have been imaged in HST Cepheid distance scale programs. Our primary goal is to measure the number of globular clusters around these galaxies. This will roughly triple the number of spiral galaxy globular cluster systems for which such information is available. We will also obtain metallicity estimates for these globular cluster systems, providing an even greater increase in the number of systems with such data. The present paucity of information on spiral galaxy globular cluster systems is the limiting factor in using globular cluster systems to constrain and motivate models of galaxy formation. Our program will also greatly improve constraints on the formation efficiency of globular clusters in spirals, thereby helping the development of globular cluster formation models. Finally, our analysis will significantly tighten the constraints on the location and possible variations of the peak of the globular cluster luminosity function {GCLF}. In addition to constraining models concerning the formation and destruction of globular clusters, such information is vital if the GCLF is to realize its full potential as a cosmological distance indicator.
