It is maintained that the simultaneous development of synphase and antiphase disturbances in various longitude sectors of the ionosphere on its illuminated side for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres cannot be explained in the framework of aeronomic ideas. In the present paper, an attempt is made to develop a theory on the genetic relationship of magnetospheric convection, delta-Z and delta-H magnetic disturbances, and delta-Nc ionospheric disturbances. The theory is developed in relation to the relationship between ionospheric variations and the sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field.
