Martian glacier models are reviewed, and topographical features which point to past glacial activity are discussed. Evidence suggests that the polar caps have undergone significant transformations in the last few million years, and that a large part of the plains of the northern hemisphere were once covered by a layer of ice, containing rocks, which was no more than a few hundred meters thick. Glacier models are used to explain outflow channels such as Kasei Vallis and the lobes of the large volcanoes of the Tharsis region.
