Radio galaxies are important laboratories for studying the early Universe, because they generally emit three components (IR-optical-UV continuum, emission lines and radio continuum) that are all highly luminous. Here the authors concentrate on one of the most interesting scientific aspects of the project, namely the nature of the gas associated with many of the distant radio galaxies.
