The internet is rich in high quality astronomical images, often with associated caption, press release and background materials. However access to these images is not easy - search engines return multiple versions of the same image (at various resolutions), and are incomplete in finding images that are available from many telescopes. As well, the contextual information associated with a given image is often missing. We describe a solution to this problem: the first central archive of astronomical images - a service that allows users to search for objects, and the ability for users to submit images for inclusion. This archive is enabled by the Virtual Astronomy Multimedia Project (VAMP) and the Astronomy Visualization Metadata (AVM) standard.
