Data on the distribution of petrogenic elements between the Fe-Mg-silicates in lunar basalt melts were used to derive equilibrium equations for olivine-melt, augite-melt, and pigeonite-melt. Using these equations as geothermometers, it was possible to calculate temperatures of crystallization of lunar olivines and pyroxenes with an accuracy of + or - 10 C. The contents of femic phases could be calculated with an accuracy of 1-2 mol pct Fo. New augite-melt and pigeonite-melt geothermometers for terrestrial basalts are proposed.
