The paper presents an analysis of data on the ionospheric absorption of vertical-sounding waves, rocket measurements of temperature, and optical observations from Salyut-6. The analysis indicates that, in a number of cases, conditions favorable for the appearance of noctilucent clouds (an extremely low temperature of the mesopause/lower thermosphere) can occur not only at middle and high latitudes but also at equatorial latitudes.
