Available data about lunar surface relief are used to construct expansions in spherical functions and in sampling functions that represent the geometric figure of the moon. The coefficients of both expansions are determined, and the resulting representations are compared. It is shown that the expansion in spherical functions does not give an accurate representation of the far side, but the figure of the moon given by the expansion in sampling functions shows a large-scale correlation with the lunar gravitational field.
