Since the local spectrum of the cosmic radiation flux that is accessible to a satellite in earth orbit is a complex function of its position and the geomagnetic cutoff characteristic at the zenith and azimuth angle of each position, the world grid of cutoff rigidity calculations at 400 km altitude can be used to determine the geomagnetic transmission functions that allow a simple and direct calculation of the allowed cosmic ray spectrum at the satellite to be undertaken. This rigidity-dependent geomagnetic transmission function describes the accessible solid angle at each observation point. When the cosmic ray spectrum in particles at the magnetopause boundary is multiplied by this geomagnetic transmission function, the resultant local spectrum at the spacecraft is obtainable in units of particles; the entire cosmic ray flux is therefore obtainable.
