The problem of detecting solar surface oscillations is discussed. One approach described is to compare peaks in a plot of the amplitude modulation spectrum with known values for periods of solar oscillation. A plot of the spectral density versus the frequency is interpreted as providing qualitative support for the indication of the oscillations. The spectrum of AE-index fluctuations is examined, and the likelihood that a narrow peak at 83 minutes is of solar origin is considered. The possibility that the quasi-periodic variations in the intensity of cosmic rays might be related to solar oscillations is examined.
