Although chosen mainly for its safety characteristics, new Mars Global
Surveyor and Mars Odyssey data suggest that the MER 2003 "Elysium"
candidate landing site in southeastern Utopia Planitia also meets basic
science requirements for the MER mission involving the geologic activity
of water.
