The striped plains of the Loukhy-Atalanta area represent a transitional
region between the older dislocated elevated continents in the west to
the younger oceanic plains with extension belts in the east. The striped
plains are covered by a network of dikes and fracture zones. They can be
compared to areas of dispersed spreading on earth.
