Methods and tools used in solving geodetic engineering problems for various antenna systems are reviewed. The types and characteristics of radio telescopes and antenna arrays are summarized, their principal radiotechnical parameters discussed, and the precision requirements for geodetic support defined. Various kinds of geodetic survey work involved in the assembly, adjustment, and operation of antenna systems are described, as are the geodetic instruments used. Particular attention is given to the adjustment of axial positioning mechanisms, surface control of large mirrors, and referencing of antenna systems to external coordinates.
