An equipotential surface of revolution is propagated as a reference surface for a worldwide geodetic system. The author briefly outlines a trigonometry using geodesics as surface curves and gives the most important geodetic applications. The developments are valid for any length of the geodesics customarily used for "long lines" on an ellipsoid of revolution.
