The contents of elements in rocks at the Vega-1 and Vega-2 landing sites, in the area of Venus adjacent to Aphrodite Terra were analyzed by means of an X-ray fluorimeter and a gamma-spectrometer. On the basis of studies correlating the Venusian petrographic data with the known contents and variations in terrestrial and lunar magmatic rocks, the Venus rocks were identified as a possible analog of terrestrial olivine gabbro-norite. Rocks of such composition could be produced by differentiation of the initial melt containing about 1 mass percent of H2O.
