Raman spectra of aqueous systems containing sulfur dioxide, elemental
sulfur and sulfate indicate that the equilibrium between these species
is catalyzed by elemental sulfur. Therefore, dynamic equilibrium can be
expected under conditions prevalent on Venus, on Io and in epigenic
sulfur deposits.
