The influence of initial stress on the generation of waves is examined theoretically for an infinite micropolar elastic medium to determine the displacement, stress, rotation, and couple-stress components. The Fourier-Hankel transform is applied to the equation of motion to derive the component values analytically as integrals involving the Bessel function. The results of the analysis are of interest to the practical study of wave propagation in solid bodies such as the earth, where initial stresses exist and affect the waves significantly.
